BENEFITS OF OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING
The sulfur-trace technique is advantageous in many ways, as it is not destructive to costly prototype engines, it is completely harmless and it allows second-by-second realtime data under steady-state and transient engine opration.

In addition, the oil consumption contribution from the various engine systems can be measured separately. For example the contribution from the piston-ring and liner (PRL), from the turbo charger (TC), from the crankcase ventilation system (CCV) and from the EGR circuit can all be separated and measured.
It is also possible to measure the real time oil consumption contribution from each individual cylinder.
